Woooo okay hi hello we are back! It’s unreal to think about how much the world has changed since I initially started writing this post back in March, but well… you know what happened. The timing of coronavirus bizarrely coincided with the relaunch of the creative marketing startup I work for- formerly Digitalimit and now Delphi Strategic Marketing & Design. So this post, adorable in its naivete that we’d be thinking about a rebrand at any point in 2020, is about that. Because y’know, reader, social tumult is both a marathon and a sprint- we are constantly running to the next metaphorical safe haven for our psyches over and over again for months, years, decades. There have to be water breaks! Talking about my company’s progress is a pretty great water break for me.
As a lot of you already know, while I was interning at Magnolia Pictures 3 days a week in 2018/2019, I was also freelancing at a creative marketing startup called Digitalimit for 2 days a week. I started by doing social media writing and web design support, but as we kept evolving, my role did as well. But I’ll get to that in a bit. First, we gotta talk about our evolution as a group.
“Why Delphi? Why, because the oracle of course!”
The incredible thing about the people I work with is that they are sincerely enthusiastic and kind, and most of them (including me) are theatre nerds so they have a deep understanding of how to get a production up and running in a few weeks. Our CEO actually started Digitalimit after coming off performing in a National Tour and needed a career that didn’t constantly take him across the country. Digitalimit began in his living room, and in the time I’ve been with the company, I’ve seen them grow as a team, as a business, and as a brand. I remember starting at Digitalimit and one of the first team convos we had was to get me up to speed on the rebrand. Why Delphi? Why, because the oracle of course! Because people would come from miles around to consult the oracle at Delphi, and we feel spiritual kinship to that experience. We work with clients who need to launch a product or build a website or tour a project or anything in between, and we listen to what they’re looking for. We care for their story and all its beautiful rarity as we begin to build with them. We’re not a traditional marketing agency- we create everything in-house, including our photography and video production. Like our clients, we’re storytellers, and the thing that really gets us stoked is telling those stories to the world. You can see it in everything we do, and in how my role evolved- see how I wrapped that back around?
“I still feel like a little girl on Christmas when I’m asked at work, ‘Do you have experience with this kind of writing?’ and I get to say, ‘Yes!! When do you want to start?’ Matching your skill set to your career is quite a feeling.”
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m more of an artist than a corporate employee (even though I have a ton of experience in both), and it’s likely they would also know that I have over a decade of experience in marketing and social media. I started my first internship at a Tony Award-winning theatre before I graduated college, and walked directly from graduation to a fellowship at another Tony Award-winning theatre before moving to NYC to receive my MFA. Marketing and social media have been with me for a long time, as has web design. When Digitalimit originally hired me, it was to do those exact things- support the web designer and support the social media manager in any way they needed. As our client lists and needs grew, so did our ambitions. I can’t tell you how deeply felt the kismet was on the day the CEO and I both wanted to pitch a new job for me, and we pitched the same one. After that meeting, I moved away from social writing into a field much more suited to me: content strategy. These days, I only write original content as my job (with a lil Google ads writing on the side), and I am so proud of the work that has been coming out of my new department. This is part of the reason I am so proud of Delphi’s rebrand- Delphi and I grew together, and in a way, we debuted together too.
I’m so grateful for everything that has come my way so far. I still feel like a little girl on Christmas when I’m asked at work, “Do you have experience with this kind of writing?” and I get to say, “Yes!! When do you want to start?” Matching your skill set to your career is quite a feeling.
Of course, my journey is far from over. Yes, I do have some projects on the back burner I had been fleshing out before covid threw us on our heels. Yes, I hope to have some type of creative project out for all of you to enjoy at the end of the year. No, I can’t tell you anymore than that!
Keep a lookout for me, y’all. And checkout Delphi’s new website! I can’t say what’s next, but I’m as sure as I always am of this: it’s gonna be cool.
